Cork’s famous Mangan’s Clock on St. Patrick’s Street being given a little spruce up! Mangan’s Clock has stood tall on St. Patrick’s Street since the 1850, surviving the Civil War and the burning of Cork City! It got its name after Mangan’s Jewellers, a famous family business of clock makers and jewellers from Cork. They had a shop from 1817 to the late 1980’s in what is now the entrance to the Merchant’s Quay shopping centre. Before the invention of the mobile phone, many couples would meet underneath on their first date. During the repairs they found a sliotar inside which was shot from (controversially) the north side of the city!
